On a serious note, we may not be able to post-pone the marathon (link here), but there is a
great concert & opportunity to donate
featuring: Bon Jovi, Christina & Springsteen
Thankfully, our friends are accounted for
(though some without power).
(though some without power).
Spoke to my band + old recording studio...
they are safe but said "things are getting scary nearby."
Neighborhoods with no problems find their gas stations hoarded by new mobs of people.
Here's an account from a fellow musician that records at the same studio in Queens i did:
"Chase bank looted and set afire by bandits with torches, looters dressed as con ed, national guard in the streets, loose dobermans and pitbulls, hulking trees downed all over atop cars and houses, power out all over, a sea of dead cars, no traffic lights, people without gas for generators and the cars they didn't lose. A boat on Crossbay Boulevard. The smell of burning wood. Garbage and rot and possessions piled high on every block. People carrying bats to ward off looters. People waiting for days in hopes of getting their basements pumped. People without clothes and food. 3 hour bus rides to get to Manhattan where there's so much of the city without power. Traffic guards, sirens, ambulances, police, medical examiners... and this is only Howard Beach which was Zone B. (Zone A was the highest at-risk area) I can't even imagine what Rockaway and Breezy Point look like."
Prayers + donations to all.
Rockaway, Queens (above).
Front Street, Stapleton, Staten Island
Rockaway, Queens again.
Stay strong Ian.
(Still think it's a good idea to flaunt generators + extra water
at the Marathon Finish Line Bloomberg?)
(Or kick residents that just lost homes out of hotels for tourists visiting?)
Hope everyone out there has a sis like Amber- you best believe that return Brazil missionary got us through the first NYC blackout- had me filling every pot in the house w/ water before the pumps stopped.
